[ it's bookshop time! welcome to the bookshop! alex is in here bright and early, with a mug of coffee in one hand -- which gets set on the table almost immediately -- before she goes browsing through the books for... well. seemingly something in particular?
It's just...I heard the book store opened last week but I couldn't see anything so when my sight came back I wanted to check what was in here. There's so much!
[he stands up, a few books sliding away as he does]
Sorry, were you here to read too? Or did you need some help with anything?
I guess I can't really blame you, if you couldn't see all last week. [ seeing as the uh... armour thing is out there now, she adds: ] Are you able to sleep, like that?
[ oh, well. she has a book in her hands. two actually, one is on group communication and the other is on gemstone properties. ]
A little reading, actually. I just figured I might as well make use of this place, seeing as we have it.
Well, actually [there's a pause; he's still getting used to talking so openly about his body situation] I don't sleep. I haven't been able to since I lost my body. That's part of why I try to keep myself busy at night.
[oh books! that's a much nicer thing to talk about! Al nods enthusiastically and brings a couple up from the pile he'd been sitting amongst, showing them off]
There's a bunch of books about things I've never even heard of! Like how physics and chemistry changes in space, where and how a lot of elements are made, and different histories and cultures for the places everyone came from [does the bookshop have those kind of books? well it does now I decided]
Studying is something I'm good at, so I thought that maybe if there was anything in here that could help...
Oh! I hadn't looked for any medical books, but I do know a lot about anatomy and biology.
I'm not a doctor or anything, of course! But I have spent a lot of time patching up my brother when he gets hurt [which is...so very often] so I guess I'm pretty good at it. Most of what I know if from books but—
Yeah, something like that. I don't think most of us could do medicine from just books, but first aid or wrapping injuries would be useful skills to have--
[seeing that, it feels like having looked into someone's window or hidden in their closet, more than anything, his first reaction is guilt at having looked (despite the lack of choice)
as he shakes his head to clear it away, his voice is deeply apologetic]
Oh! I'm—what was that? I'm really sorry, I don't know how I saw that...
It's alright, Alphonse. These things have been popping up for a couple of days -- be careful if you have anything you want to keep secret, they're not too picky about what they show or to who.
No, that was a real thing that happened. I think it is actually memories, rather than anything else that it picks up on. You don't get to choose which ones it displays either.
[ it seemed like it was something she'd forgotten? maybe she never got it back. but... how would she have known she'd lost it in that memory, if she hadn't remembered?
she presses a hand against her forehead, like she's warding off a headache. ]
It's okay, Miss Alex. [a gentle touch to her other arm] I'm sure it'll come back when everything else does.
If it's your memory, then you share it with someone else and that makes it real and keeps it alive. When you forget who you are, the people you care about can help you remember.
week 4, wednesday
she does pause when she spots alphonse though. ]
Hello. Enjoying the books?
[ she asks one of the ultimate book nerds ]

I am! But, what are you doing here this time of night?
[he...has been here since Tuesday evening]

[ she knows nothing of alchemy. just that there's a soft boy who happens to be a suit if armour, and that's fine? she supposes.
it's not really fine but he doesn't seem to be... in pain? so. ]
Did you find anything good, while you were here all night?

Like... medical texts or something? [ they are down one doctor ] They might be good to have on hand in case we really get into trouble.
It sounds like you enjoy it, as much as you're good at it. [ that's a lot of topics he's been covering overnight. ]

Sorry, Miss Alex, do you see this weird bubble?
[he reaches his hand out and POP]

[ and there's the POP! and alphonse will see a memory, as a treat. ]

Was that...are the memories in those bubbles real? Or more like dreams?

Who was that with you in the picture of you as a kid? Do you remember?

I. I don't, actually.
