...that may be so. If it was already used, however, I doubt they were immune to further exposure later. It would be too suspicious to simply avoid being afflicted as well.

[He won't go for another haiku, but he'll just say that in a way to say "we're all in this together, we'll be okay".]

[he doesn't smile back-- but he does nod, at that. he understands his meaning.]
