No reason for the "realm" to be fair about anything, right? Keeping me in a cage like this. A reminder of all our failures.
[ The realm is just mean. No food is provided during trials?? He has not eaten all day and won't be able to until the npcs come and have mercy on him after pcs are over, we really were spoiled in other games with their little snack tables. ]
[ Becks... go back to sleep... I want to be unconscious for 14 hours ]
It's supposed to be a reflection of us, or something, right?
[ Isn't that what they said with the guillotine last week? Conjured up by everybody's expectations of an execution. At least that sort of death is quick and painless, and Kano can only hope he gets somebody ruthless enough to give him the same mercy. ]
Something like that. I’m not sure exactly how it’s reacting to us, but it is.
[ it’d be nicer if they could all just wish this barrier gone but ... there are probably people out there who are just happy that someone’s caught and they’re still alive. it wouldn’t even be successful. ]
None of us are quite as good and kind hearted as we think we are?
Haha... I think... people are better and more kindhearted than they think, sometimes. It's just... placed in situations like this. They get scared. It's not their fault. They're just scared.
It makes us selfish. We don't want die, and we don't want the people we care about to die. So... we pick a name and hope things work out the way we want them to. [ ... ] That's a dangerous way of doing things.
[ He breathes a laugh, because that's how it is, isn't it? They pick a name, and the name was his, and maybe people will be sad for a day or two but then things will work out. Life won't stop just because of a couple of deaths. ]
Maybe, but it makes sense, doesn't it? You get rid of the people who will cause problems, who are dangerous, who will disrupt the peace. Everybody left is good and kind and won't ever kill, and everybody will be safe. Instinctively, people think this way. To be safe and happy, all you have to do is get rid of monsters like us.
[ there's a moment where she's quiet, and her fists clench at her side. ]
Who decides what a monster is, anyway? Who decides any of this - what's "right", what's "dangerous", what counts as "disruptive"? The world isn't as simple and clean cut as that, there's always going to be people who'll hide it better than others and sneak under the radar. Just because someone's disruptive, or more dangerous than the next person doesn't mean they should just be erased to make other people feel better.
... You don't deserve to be removed just because we couldn't get our acts together.
[ Who decides what a monster is? Society. Rule of the masses. That vote yesterday pretty much says all there is to it.
He rubs at the corner of his eye, tired. ]
I've been a monster ever since I was little. Could never do anything right, all I could do was cause problems, my siblings and I were called monsters and freaks and shoved to the side and— [ he frowns ] I hated it. But I get it. Anybody who threatens the safety of my family, I'd want them to disappear too.
[ Deserving has nothing to do with it. Human beings are selfish, and no matter how much of a monster he is, he was still born human. ]
You're not a monster because people can't be bothered to try to understand you. Or because you can do something other people don't understand.
[ she... doesn't smack the barrier this time, but she does rest a hand on it. even if it's going to try and shove her away. ]
There are just as many monsters that look normal, act "right" and are loved by the masses as there are that don't fit those criteria. [ she laughs, but it's sad and bitter. ] They just have the luck of power, and getting to hide their crimes from people while punishing others for the same thing.
[ there's... so much of that back home. and now, here, there's someone wandering around who committed murder and voted for someone who hadn't. and they got away from it.
she's so tired of this. ]
... I live with someone who isn't "normal". And he gets treated the same way. I treated him that way, at first. Before I tried to get to know him, he terrified me. But he's ... good, and kind even if he's done things that are questionable, and that kindness just isn't in the way people think it should be. I don't want to see more people being treated the way he and every Twilight like him, the ones who are friendly and kind, just different and capable of different things, get treated. Here, or anywhere.
[ At least there are some people in the world who are like this, who look at somebody strange and different and don't see them as monsters, something to be feared and disgusted by. ]
...I've done some pretty terrible things, you know. I can't help but lie, I piss people off all the time, I've— ...killed people, before, because I have to. Sometimes people are right when they say somebody is a monster.
[ He appreciates the sentiment more than she knows, wishes he'd met her all those years ago, before all of this, but still... ]
Sometimes a monster is a monster, and is better off dead.
If you're saying I should hate you for that, I'd have to hate Nicholas and Worick for the same thing.
[ she just looks amused. but it's sad. ] They're hitmen. They kill people for their job, if that's what they're asked to do. And they saved my life, and I owe them everything.
I'm a hypocrite about some things, but I can't be about this. Sometimes "monsters" can be the only people who've shown care for you in years. [ ... ] It's never as simple as we think it is.
[ ...okay, at least Kano has a better reason for killing than money. ]
...I guess. I'm glad they're good people- that they were good to you. [ But their situations are different, and it has nothing to do with him. ]
But all I've been doing is messing around, causing trouble for people, trying to— ...In the end, it's better that I'm removed. There's real good people here, Alex. You guys will find your peace.
walks back in later less exhausted and suplexes kano gently
Isn't that okay? My mother... she did the best with what she had. And I loved her with everything I had. I will take her memory with me, rather than leaving it behind to be tarnished.
It's kinda hard not to be sad when it's a death, huh? But, you know... I did try real hard not to make people sad about it, when it comes time for something like me to die.
[ Very determined not to endear himself at all. People weren't supposed to be upset about him dying, he'd messed up there. ]
