[Oh no! He just lets the fox grabber struggle a little in the rabbit's grasp.]
Now I don't know whether its a Leader or this monster that let Virid and maybe Shima know about the fact that they have to kill others. Virid seemed to do it out of selfishness, but Shima seemed like he believes he was helping. How, I don't know. Either way, if the monster's doing it...it'll be harder to stop a threat we can't see.
she looks like she's thinking, very hard for a moment. to the point that she's not so focused on the grabbers. ]
You don't think the thing Sora and I saw could be that monster...? Based off what it said, talking about how we couldn't change destiny. Won didn't mentioned anything about a creature that talked to them, did he?
...Perhaps. Or at least a part of it, since it seems to be outside the Realm, Elsa said.
[He nods.]
Won actually mentioned the same thing to me. So I wonder...seems kind of calm and philosophical for a creature that's trying to feed on our memories, right?
[ oh. rip bunny’s ears. she wiggles the grabber a little to try and free it. ]
It... It definitely knows things about us. It was able to take the forms of people we know —- and not in a positive way. [ there’s a very interesting snarl of something like anger, hate and a very deep fear that gets tugged loose at the mention of whatever it was the creature had turned into. but she smothers it pretty fast. ]
More like it knew our weak spots and was willing to use them against us. That doesn’t make me think it was something benevolent.
[ she’s quiet for a... fairly long time, and it’s very clear from her emotions there’s a real fight or flight war going on in her mind. like she’s about to bolt and just keep going until she’s as far away as she can get.
...
but then she takes a deep breath, and it settles and steadies. slowly, but surely.
there’s nothing here she has to be ashamed of. the fear is still there, but there’s something steely too. ]
I needed money, because my family was running out. He said he knew of some work in Ergastulum.
... The work wasn’t what he said it was, and by the time I realised I wasn’t able to leave. And then I couldn’t.
[ ... ]
Eventually someone took out a hit on his entire gang, and that’s how I met Nicholas and Worick.
But if this place can dip into our memories as it wants and take them from us, I guess we shouldn’t be so surprised this monster can use them too.
["The work wasn't what he said it was". And that kind of fear...he has his assumptions, but nothing he thinks of is anything good. He frowns, feeling a sort of sharp anger, momentarily, for her, for the fact that she had to be tricked in such a way, before it relaxes, slightly.]
I'm sorry...I'm sorry that happened to you. [He finally says, quiet.] And I'm glad that you got out of that situation. Nobody even deserves to be put in a position like that.
[He's trying to find the words to say. He wants to reach out, touch her shoulder, but he can't.]
...We have to be careful, then. If it can use our memories...then that's quite a terrible weapon, indeed.
He’s dead and I’m not. That counts for something, right?
[ ... it did, and it does. she just needs to survive here, and then ergastulum and then... well. what, exactly? figure out where she goes next, what she does next. where she belongs.
the anger is a bit of a surprise. so many people in ergastulum knew her story before she even knew them — there were so many women like that in that place anyway that they were more of a sad fact and reality of life than something to get mad over and angry for.
but it’s... nice as well. there’s still fear and that spark of something defiant in her, but she can’t help but feel grateful too —- that he’s not asking for more details, and that what she’s saying is just being accepted as it is. ]
... [ she fiddles with the grabber, to give her hands something to do. other than fold across her chest protectively, or something like taking his hand and just ending up shocking both of them. ]
They’re already being used against us in some ways. It’s like a reverse hostage situation —- the Realm takes them, and we don’t know how to get them back. We just know we can, in some way. But we don’t know what, not properly.
We don’t even know if we can regain them in a non-violent way either.

I guess it doesn't have to be violent to be siphoning memories from us...
I wonder if it had something to do with how we ended up in those strange places anyway.

Maybe. It begs the question of whether its an intruder or a parasite or...something else, compared to the realm.

[There's some concern that filters over the connection in reply to the tangled sharp emotions he's feeling from her.]
That sounds like something quite malicious. [A pause, some reluctance.] If you don't mind me asking...who did it turn into?

[ oh hey that fear just skittered back up again. ]
My previous employer.

[Curiosity, but...he does the equivalent of stepping back.]
I won't pry. If its a tough subject, I don't want to put you on the spot.
